What is God's Purpose for My Life?

All Christians struggle with this question, "What is God's purpose for my life?" This is a normal process for when you realize that Jesus has given you a guarantee of eternal bliss, you want to give something back. We know that our salvation is not based on our works, therefore, we cannot earn this guarantee of eternal bliss. No, salvation is instead based on choice; a decision. However, God made us a reciprocal being ( in his image), so naturally, we ask, "What is God's purpose for my life?"

Now history has shown that God has called some to leave their homes and families to seed a new land - Abraham. He has called some to challenge the prevailing authority to free mankind - Moses. To others he asked that they fight - David, and still others to set up a kingdom in peace - Solomon. He has called prophets - Deborah, and queens - Esther. He calls many to specific duties depending on his design. But dear Christian, there is something that he calls on us all to do.

Communion
"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 And he said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'" Matthew 22:36-37 RSV
We are to have communion with God. Communion means talking to him, spending silent time with him, studying his word either through the Bible of through our spiritual leaders. Get to know God. Do you know why God loves us so much? Because he knows everything about us. We should strive to know God in the same way.

Commandment
"And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:39 RSV
God's direct commandment to us is to love our neighbor. We can love our neighbor by getting to know them and allowing them to know us. You cannot fill the needs of someone's until you know their hardships. Perhaps the person sitting next to you needs some exhortation - just knowing that someone cares. Perhaps they are hurting and need a kind word. Perhaps the person you see everyday has not been touched by a human being in months, and a hug will be remembered forever. We can feed, clothe and support the poor. We can give a single mother an evening to herself. There are many things we can do to foster love for our neighbor.

Commission
" But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Sama'ria and to the end of the earth." Acts 1:8 RSV
Jesus commissioned us to spread his message of salvation to the world. This commission was declared over each and every Christian - that mean us. His seed lives in us, and like the good and faithful servant, we are to spread that seed to the rest of the world. Every soul we encounter has only one of two outcomes - heaven or hell. The next time you are standing in line in the grocery store, look at the person behind you; study their face. Will you see that face in heaven for eternity, or will that face spend eternity in eternal agony?

CCC - these are the purpose that God has laid out for our lives. He may never call us to any more than these three things, or he may charge us with more. But know dear Christian, that if you fulfill the three CCC's, you have completed God's purpose for your life.

Hi Annie,

thanks for your comment on my blog. I must say that I am very interested in how you felt called to join a church after thirty years of solitude.

Be blessed!

Dear MXU

Thank you for reading my blog, as well. When God charged me to go back to church, I thought it was for my maturity and further growth. I soon learned that God had sent me to that church to minister to them. During those thirty years, God taught me about evangelisim, forgiveness, the antedote to pride, turmoil and jealousy. Even my relationship with God was different than many of the church members. It was more intimate - almost as a husband and wife relationship. These are things that I can share with those who are open. I believe God wants this kind of relationship with all his children.

I pray that you will be blessed, as well. May God's grace overtake you.
